We're still about 90 minutes away from Gov. Tom Corbett's ballyhooed campaign stump at Primanti Brothers with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, but Allegheny County Democratic Chair Nancy Patton Mills is getting her jabs in early.
In a press release entitled: "TONE-DEAF TOM BRINGS WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS BRIDGE CLOSER TO THE CITY OF BRIDGES," Mills points out the irony in bringing Christie — who was caught in a political scandalover the political closing of the NY-NJ connecting George Washington Bridge — into the city on a day when the Friday rush is bound to be busier than usual.
"Proving how well-deserved his historically low polling numbers are, Tom Corbett will again show how out of touch he is at a rally today ... featuring GOP/Tea Party NJ Gov. Chris Christie," the release states. "This appearance comes as the city begins its 10-day celebration of the arts with the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the week-long tribute to LGBTQ Pride and Equality, the return of the Pirates as they take on the Brewers for Free Shirt Friday, and other major cultural and community festivities."
Patton Mills also took issue with Corbett's appearance coinciding with the start of the city's Pride festivities.
“Even worse is the fact that Corbett thinks nothing of bringing his anti-LGBTQ message to the very spot where just a few hours earlier our city launched our annual tribute to our sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, and friends and neighbors who are lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender,” Mills said. “Corbett famously insulted our citizens calling marriage equality like brother marrying sister, and now he is insulting them — and us — again."

Pittsburgh (June 6, 2014) — Proving how well-deserved his historically low polling numbers are, Tom Corbett will again show how out of touch he is at a rally today in Market Square featuring GOP/Tea Party NJ Gov. Chris Christie. This appearance comes as the city begins its 10-day celebration of the arts with the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the week-long tribute to LGBTQ Pride and Equality, the return of the Pirates as they take on the Brewers for Free Shirt Friday, and other major cultural and community festivities.
“This is a prime example why Tom Corbett continues his downward spiral in the polls and our great nominee, Tom Wolf, keeps gaining support,” said Nancy Patton Mills, chair of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee. “Corbett’s appearance with Chris Christie — best known for creating major traffic disruptions when his administration closed access to the world’s busiest bridge in a petty political snit — is guaranteed to make life difficult for the hundreds of thousands of workers and celebrants converging on downtown. We will experience a small taste of the traffic jam Chris Christie imposed on the people of Fort Lee, NJ for daring to be Democrats.

“With our excellent gubernatorial nominee Tom Wolf at least 20 points ahead, Corbett and Christie seem determined to be the skunks at the party, unable to make the case for Corbett’s reelection,” said Mills. “But their visit here will just make Democrats more determined to widen that gap. We’re looking forward to a resounding victory in November.”
