Across the street from Target in East Liberty, a massive construction project is underway: new busway stops, retail, apartments and restaurants. Recently, the site erected a wall with artist renderings of how it will all look when completed. The drawings depict what one would expect: happy people, shiny new buildings, new greenspaces. (Also, pretty sure those are the East End crows dotting the sky.)
But in one aerial depiction, two bizarre things have been added to the cityscape — far from East Liberty.
This is a Ferris wheel. A huge one. Long-range perspective is always tricky in Pittsburgh, but a best guess puts this in the Strip District.
This defies easy analysis. It might be a rocket-launching structure. Or a huge fracking rig? Another super-sized amusement ride? We'll have to wait and see.
