Black Forge Coffee II in McKees Rocks

In May, McKees Rocks became home to one of Pittsburgh's newest live music venues, the Roxian Theatre. On Monday, July 15, McKees Rocks gets another vital addition to Chartiers Ave. - three blocks up from the Roxian - when Black Forge Coffee House opens its second location.

Owner Ashley Corts began looking for a spot for Black Forge II last year after Allentown residents, where the original Black Forge resides, filed a multitude of noise complaints. Aside from offering a selection of caffeine and baked goods, the metal- and punk-themed coffee shops regularly host musical acts, podcast recordings, open mics, and more - ranging between 15 and 25 events every week.

“We are going to continue to host shows like monthly jam sessions with Phat Man Dee, acoustic stuff and smaller bands, and keep the noise down,” Corts said of the original Black Forge location to NEXT Pittsburgh.

As for the McKees Rocks location, coffee and the like will still be available, but the metal and punk fans will be able to enjoy hearing the genre as it should be heard: bone-shakingly loud.
