Re: “UPMC opens food bank for struggling employees, misses point completely (UPDATED)

Maybe they could start paying them with tokens that are only good at the company store too.

Re: “UPMC opens food bank for struggling employees, misses point completely (UPDATED)

After their "employee food banks" prove a big hit, they can expand the program to offer "employee on-site shelters" and a "merit-based employee no-beatings program." Then we'll really see the community benefits of UPMC's vast commercial success.

I'm so tired of this "black lives matter" shit. All lives matter.

I agree with Jenny. I'm black but I don't believe in "black lives matter". I have best friends who are not black and I would be devastated and crushed if they died in someone else's hands or in general. They really need to stop saying "black lives matter", it's irritating and not right.

So the Pittsburgh police handle a situation nicely where no one gets hurt and the people causing the trouble get dispensed/arrested without incident and you guys are bitching? Grow the fuck up. Our police are great, if they weren't the outstanding people they were to do that job that unruly mob would be 10 times the size and a regular occurrence.

"Iggy has a black boyfriend.
This is a bunch of uninformed angry people trying to start trouble."

You can't fuck your way out of white supremacy. Sorry.

I fail to see what the cops did wrong in this video, if that was the intent.

Re: “UPMC opens food bank for struggling employees, misses point completely (UPDATED)

How much does the CEO of UPMC make? How much do all the highly-paid administrators make a year? What is the total spent on there benefits and retirement packages? There is the money that could be better used for the technology improvements and decent wages for the employees that are the backbone of the system. UPMC probably has the typical non-proft profile: overblown high administrator salaries, and underpaid, overworked support staff.

Yeah, the cops are acting like assholes but they didn't do anything wrong. In fact, they handled the situation extremely well.

There are SO MANY queer artists out there. Why was she even considered in the first place?

Re: “Updated: Delta Foundation faces backlash for Iggy Azalea concert at Pittsburgh Pridefest

It speaks volumes of Delta Foundation that their "leader" isn't facing criticism with humility, and instead chooses to refer to those pushing back against this harmful choice as "haters." It does nothing but widen the gap and prove the validity of the backlash by further displaying how little people like Gary Van Horn and the foundation as a whole regard POC. Criticism for the sake of criticism this is not. These are valid concerns about a severe lack of intersectionality within the Delta Foundation and the community at large within the city of Pittsburgh.

Take heed, Delta, more than the city of Pittsburgh is watching.

Re: “UPMC opens food bank for struggling employees, misses point completely (UPDATED)

@Worker Bea - you don't know UPMC very well then - many UPMC employees are under contract and might as well be for all intents be indentured servants.

@J.John - don't be fooled. UPMC isn't going broke anytime soon even if they paid more property taxes - they had close to $92 million in profit for the last three months of 2011 : http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/business/news/upmc-revenue-rises-by-1-billion-312078/

They're greedy. Plain and simple.

Re: “UPMC opens food bank for struggling employees, misses point completely (UPDATED)

@J.John This story may be slightly inaccurate in regards to who set up the food bank, but the point remains.

I can't understand why you would mock someone who is standing up publicly for what they think they deserve, or why you would essentially applaud a company for not paying it's employees fairly. The minimum wage is a joke, and we all know it. People SHOULD stand up and fight when they believe they (and likely many others around them) are being treated unfairly. Why is it not OK for Ms. Poston to be making a big deal out of this? Why do you think it would be better for her to just turn a blind eye to this, and allow it to continue by just moving on? And furthermore, are you completely unaware of the job market in the US at the moment?

Re: “Updated: Delta Foundation faces backlash for Iggy Azalea concert at Pittsburgh Pridefest

Where is all of this money going Delta? You brag about all the sponsorship you acquired over the year and yet you charge for every event you partake in. Take a look in how many chair members resigned from Delta this year. Were you aware that Delta purchased a brand new F150 without a meeting/vote. I know a handful of gay youths who were kicked out of their house, or had everything taken away from them because they are gay. They couldn't finish school or find housing. Shouldn't money be better spent there? If you take sponsorship away from the GLCC there is only so much they could do.

I watched Margot ball her eyes out after working for 3 days straight last Pride after GVH called her useless. There was a whole magazine staff incorrectly paid (not to mention 2 bar staffs). Stop chasing out people wanting to make a difference in this community.

Iggy is not what we are mad about. Its so much more. We need a representative who should invest in the people of the community vs. the commercialism of it. We should celebrate the older members who fought for equality, back when people turned their head when people where beaten for being gay. We should teach our youth that its okay to be them. That there are people who will love them even when everyone they love turned their back on them. This should be the focus of Pride. Not concerts and pub crawls.

Re: “EDMC layoffs hit Art Institutes nationwide

I used to teach at AI. Now I am glad I didn't take their full-time offer. Loved the job but the way they ran the place was ridiculous. They treat their academic directors like dogs and pay their part-timers chump change. The place had so much potential but EDMC just sucks the life out of the local schools. I don't believe publicly held schools work - too much obligation to the stock holders. Keep private schools private.

Re: “Local comic Day Bracey clashes online with alt-right comedian Owen Benjamin over canceled Pittsburgh show

hahaha This is hilarious. I called myself and Justin Trudeau a racial slur. Not one black dude. If you don't see the comedy in that, woah.
Day Bracey is an activist first, a racist second, and third he's not even a comic. Does he have any hobbies? Cuz the clips I saw of him he was stealing from Chris rock.
Alt right. HAHAHAHA You guys are THIRSTY.

Re: “Following arrest, media lists Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Joey Porter's past legal trouble but ignore those of the arresting officer

If the officer has a history of abusing his authority,or mistreating people it is absolutely relevant.

Also, I'm PERMANENTLY banned from twitter. Day Bracey was threatening people with violence and no one seemed to care too much. I believe that's called "the soft bigotry for low expectations." And btw, what I said about that parkland kid was if you don't have pubes you can't tell adults what they can and can't do. Yeah. Permanent ban. And he Day, I'll perform 4/28 in "your" city and there's nothin you can do about it.

Re: “Video shows Pittsburgh City Councilor Darlene Harris in verbal altercation with cyclist on city streets

Don Harden, I love my special exemption from taxes cause I ride a bike, I just tell the cashier that I ride a bike and I don't have to pay, oh and the line on my income tax form that says, 'if you ride a bike, discontinue this form, you don't have to pay taxes!'
