Re: “Daniel Smith Jr., an openly gay candidate, is running against homophobic Pennsylvania state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe

Just curious; On a piece of literature delivered at my front door, why didn't Ms Smith indicate his party affiliation and his focus on unseating Rep. Metcalf? Why didn't he make any reference to his single intention to push his queer, perverted agenda on unsuspecting residents of the PA 12th District?

Re: “Pittsburgh and Allegheny County officials to state and feds: Pass universal health care

From the article: "Prizio noted the U.S. spends nearly twice as much on health care compared to other developed countries."

That reference to "nearly twice" is often stated without any substance, as it was above.

FYI --- The actual figure is 250% or 2.5 ...
The substance of the 2.5 is here:
The United States cost per person is 2.5 times the average cost per person of the other OECD countries. OECD is the "Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development", an international organization that is based in France.

Re: “Where Southwestern Pa.’s delegation stand on Trump’s family-separation immigration policy

While imprisoning all who cross illegally could reduce jaywalking; it won't prevent people fleeing violence but a zero tolerance policy for refugees would reroute tax dollars to the prison industry. Although repeated attempts to rob millions of health insurance suggested preexisting sociopathic tendencies, many who now see Toomey or Trump as simply sadistic underestimate the profit motive behind mass incarceration. "If a woman in Pennsylvania breaks the law and commits a crime and shes arrested and prosecuted, her children do not go into her prison cell with her", Senator Toomey lamented. She is separated from her children. That is a painful exercise. How do you avoid it? It is obviously very, very difficult to impose this on the children." But Toomey continued; "If we pass legislation that permits it, we could have family detention centers." A return to keeping poor families together in debtor prisons. however, would be rejected by the majority of Americans; the same short sighted little people who saw imprisoning refugees as cruel and child abuse still fail to appreciate the big business opportunities in exploiting human suffering. http://www.phillyvoice.com/toomey-family-detention-centers-ease-child-separation-concerns/

Re: “Where Southwestern Pa.’s delegation stand on Trump’s family-separation immigration policy

Hey Christopher. Thanks for reading. Just want to clear some stuff up about what crimes the parents are being charged of.

Illegal entry is a federal misdemeanor crime. 91 percent of parents who had children separated from them were prosecuted with illegal entry. Other felony misdemeanors include "false claims for postal losses," embezzlement, and failure to pay child support. Not all of these crimes lead directly to jail time.

Re: “Where Southwestern Pa.’s delegation stand on Trump’s family-separation immigration policy

It is Federal Law that when an adult illegal breaks the law by invading the USA they will be prosecuted , thus just like bank robbers that go to jail the "kids'" are sent to a safe space ..
Only 2000 of 12,000 are possibly related to the adults the other 10,000 made the trip to game the system. The group making all the money on this is the drug cartels

Re: “Pittsburgh Post-Gazette moves Trump's 'shithole countries' quote at behest of conservative publisher John Block

I think John Blockhead is an asshole, but most trumpsters are in my humble opinion, I'm an old cranky Vietnam Veteran that thinks someone who evaded the draft is not the true patriot they claim to be,but most sensible people can see (cadet bone spurs) is the biggest liar in the world!

Re: “State Rep. candidate Aerion Abney says weak political will is hindering affordable housing at former Civic Arena site

Ryan, try investigating the Millcraft development in Manchester. How much affordable housing is Abney advocating for there? How much is Lavelle advocating for?

Re: “State Rep. candidate Aerion Abney says weak political will is hindering affordable housing at former Civic Arena site

This is one of the most careless political articles I have read in a long time. It is clear neither Mr. Deto or Mr. Abney have any real understanding of the process one is reporting on and the other is being critical of. And while Mr. Abney's falsehood's can be attributed to his political ambitions, his ignorance can not. On the otherhand, Mr. Deto's lack of journalistic integrity is both astonishing and inexcusable.

Re: “He's Number 1!: Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey is the most hated U.S. Senator on Twitter

The Democrats have 4 years to find a replacement. The logical choice is Tom Wolf, who, while not progressive enough for many due to his weak stand on fracking, the Delaware loophole(not penalizing companies operating in Pennsylvania who register free in Delaware), and on gun control, he is still better than the GOP. He has enough support in Philadelphia to be electable statewide. It depends on how he does in what will probably be a second term and if he wants a Senate seat. DiPasquale, the Auditor General in Pennsylvania would, to me, be the logical choice for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination with his high profile media reports of waste. Stay tuned.

Re: “He's Number 1!: Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey is the most hated U.S. Senator on Twitter

Just to note for our readers. Sen. Toomey's term expires in 2022. He was re-elected in 2016 and U.S. Senators serve 6-year terms. Thanks for reading everyone.

Can't wait for 2020 when we can oust this travesty from the US Senate. Pennsylvanians in the Northeast part of the state are ready to be rid of him.

Re: “Betsy Monroe, inspired by the Women’s March, is challenging state Rep. Hal English in Pittsburgh’s North Hills

Betsy Monroe is wallowing in self importance. Any Catholic that supports abortion at any stage is no longer in the faith for sure. She is typical of the self ingratiating, leftist movement and has little patience for conservative values of any kind, so I doubt she will cross any isle of political thought.. A vote for Monroe will further divide Americans because leftists like Monroe isolate, divide, and separate. She is Saul Alinskys foster child.

Re: “Stumping for congressional candidate Conor Lamb, former Vice President Joe Biden discusses future for young people

Lamb stands up for Pa's working families and so is endorsed by unions fighting for better wages & healthcare. Saccone supported cuts to Medicaid in PA which disabled veterans depend on; so what can we expect from Saccone if he goes to DC? More PA families would lose healthcare and jobs as Saccone has repeatedly voted against working families and is contemptuous of employees organizing for the benefits he received as a member of the PA legislature. Saccone repeatedly voted to allow the use of foreign steel instead of American steel in our public construction projects. Saccone voted against PA's organized workers including our miners and steelworkers. Like the GOP big donor lackey Toomey, who voted to cut Medicaid and to raid the US treasury to give the wealthy massive kickbacks, Saccone also claims he has no such plans, "I have not advocated, I never would, cutting Social Security or Medicare" while every so called healthcare bill GOP lawmakers recently voted for would cut Medicaid, increase the number of uninsured Pennsylvanians and raise healthcare costs. Ryan, McConnel, Toomey and Saccone's attacks on working families, Medicaid, Social Security and Medicare will only get worse if we don't defeat Saccone. As a nurse, I agree with Conor Lamb who said, Its time for Mr. Saccone to stand up and say he opposes the $250-billion dollar cut to Medicare that is in President Trumps budget right now but whatever Saccone says his voting record shows Saccone is Not on the side of PA working families and as a nurse I would never trust Saccone with the health of my family.

Re: “Beware of a fake poll circulating about the special election for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District

Timothy Blumenthal admits to "making up a poll in 15 minutes?" If nothing else, that demonstrates the political motivations and complete lack of integrity of the whole Democrat polling machinery. They're trying to drive us like sheep towards the Democrats. Da-- them!

Re: “Democratic Socialist Kareem Kandil seeking Pennsylvania state house seat in suburban Pittsburgh

If he's for signal payer healthcare then we know he is not a sellout political whore like Biden and Trump. We don't need fascists light or fascists extreme, we need anti-fascism if we are to save ourselves from the polices state that will be imposed on us over time as the super rich protect themselves and their power structure and trample the people. These assholes forgot who the serve. Now it's time to punish the establishment and alt right. We need progressives. JDR was elected 4 times and died in office as the greatest president ever. Bernie could have been a JDR. Maybe he will be. A democratic socialist loved by the people. Why do we have sacks of shit to choose from like Hillary or Trump. Garbage people who can't do anything for the people. Bankrupt with black empty eye like those of a shark when they are eating you. Progressives is the only way we will fix the nations failures.
