Re: “Picklesburgh, table for one please

It took me a long time to admit to myself that I have sensory issues and have always had them. Dealing with radiation fatigue the past year has amplified them, pun intended. Even when I'm not fatigued I am sensitive to sound and light. Thanks for bringing some light--and lightness--to this issue. It's not just for kids anymore!

Re: “North Side vs. Everybody

Well written! I lived in the south for nearly 10 years and missed what I grew up with tremendously. We truly have it all on the North side and it's amazing to watch new business life springing up and can't wait to see what happens next!

Re: “North Side vs. Everybody

How appropriate on my birthday May 29th. Born and raised in Manchester on the Northside. I tell stories of West View Park as Kennywood lovers cannot believe West View park was our major coaster park and kennywood rival, let alone that another amusement park even existed in its size.

Re: “North Side vs. Everybody

As a North Sider born and raised, I remember us proudly saying, "There are only 2 sides: the North Side and the Outside."

East End? You can't get there from here!

Re: “Thanks to my therapist I can now add abandonment issues to my psychiatric cornucopia

I don't really understand what you wanted her to do. Copays are set by insurance companies and so her accepting a lower copay constitutes fraud. Also her not filling your slot would have meant she would have been at work for an hour unpaid until you made the decision to come back. It's not like she said "I'll never see you again." She said "I can't keep your standing appointment open." Therapists are people who have to eat just like everyone else. I think that's really easy to lose sight of.

Re: “Thanks to my therapist I can now add abandonment issues to my psychiatric cornucopia

omg HA THANK YOU I have almost exactly the same list of dx AND recently was transitioned from two therapists in the span of 8 months and it was exactly as awkward as this. I am indebted to your humor for connecting your story with my story in this truthful way.

100% agree about Primanti's. Not that good. But they could be.

Re: “Gab Bonesso learns the cost of a cookie

When I graduated from high school my estranged father took me out to dinner, told me how proud he was of me--after a lifetime of ignoring me on the good days, or beating and haranguing me on the more common bad days.

"I want to give you a hundred dollars," he said, "But I only have fifty now. I'll give you the rest on payday." He'd never given me a present in his life, and though I knew I'd never see that second $50, the idea of any gesture on his part filled me with an exultant cocktail of excitement and trepidation. I ate my meal with the cash on the table, right where I could see it, halfway between his steak and my lasagna. He encouraged me to have desert. He asked me about my future. About the cute "that tight little blonde" I'd been dating".

Then the waitress brought the check. He looked at it, nodded, picked up the $50 bill from the table and handed it back to her. When she returned with the change, he passed me the remaining $17.46, looking proud as hell. 34 years ago, and I still recall the exactly amount.

We got up and he led the way out, stiffing the waitress on the tip, as was his habit (nobody tipped him for doing his job!). I surreptitiously left the $7.46 on the table--he'd caught me leaving tips to cover him before, and nothing good ever came of it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hurt, but I got $10 and a nice dinner.

The next day we received a letter in the mail from his lawyer, contending that since I graduated on June 6, and technically dad's child support payment of $100/mo expired at my graduation, that they would be pro-rating that month's payment and we should only expect $25. My mom sighed. "Typical," she said. I never did see that other $50

Re: “Gab Bonesso gets mansplained at Best Buy, twice

Im sorry about your experience. I work in the Magnolia department inside Best Buy in Florida.
There is never an excuse for not listening to a customer. ..who is coming in for assistance...and to spend their money.
Those that dont listen do not survive in any industry.
Cheers and we do have some excellent female employees as well as male.
We will continue to try and do better.

Re: “An amendment to Pittsburgh's panhandling ordinance should remind us how wrong it was in the first place

Never will I ever give to people who panhandle! You want something: work for it! That's how America is. How about you idiot liberals examine some of the *choices* those people made in their lives, and thus, here they are, begging for money. But when offered food, they refuse, saying they want cash. It is illegal to panhandle in PA but our PD fails to enforce it as they should be doing! Myself and other taxpaying Pittsburghers WHO WORK HARD, thank you very much, don't need to be bothered with scumbags who refuse to work and did nothing but throw their lives away. They have plenty of resources in this town to help them, yet they refuse. Hmmm. Odd. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY!!! And the ones on the southside that have dogs with them: the dogs should be taken away from them! You can't take care of yourself so you're going to take on a dog to exploit for $$ when the dog could be in a loving home. BS. TAKE THE DOGS AWAY FROM THEM!!!

Re: “Gabby Normal: Practice What You Preach

So grateful for all that you've shared Gabby. My heart feels a bit of it mending every time I hear someone understand the truth about addiction. Accepting the truth of it naturally comes with compassion. And the understanding, acceptance and compassion calm me down, because it makes the world a safer place. Thank you. Love you, Ruth

Re: “The Problem With “Diversity”

I always had a problem with the word "diversity" it was meant to mean people of color. at that time i was at a workplace where businesses received start up funding, so the word diversity was twisted to mean "white women", and every other ethnicity other than "African American / Black, etc." and when it came to hiring yes they used diverse in the same way, as long as they hired a white woman, Asian person, you get it the path. It didn't matter if they didn't hire an African American because being diverse you hired someone, you funded someone other than a white male. LOL don't use that word around me.
