Re: “Catching Z's

The Roman Coward Church lives in a topsy-turby world where evil, somehow rises to the top all too often for the wrong reasons.
June 1, 2010, Cardinal George appointed Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. to the board of the US Bishop’s conference that oversees celrgy sex abuse cases. Sadly, no background check was made of the Zappala Crime Family/Terrorist Group. Here’s some background information a friend dug up in her spare time on the Zappala’s. There’s much more, but this does a good job in explaining why Cardinal George wanted a little more mob-muscle behind the US Bishop’s Conference.

Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone, and let he whose family hath been a sin-machine for generations, be banned from casting any stones. I’m talking about the Zappala’s. What does Mike Ference mean when he calls the Zappala’s a “Crime Family/Terrorist Group”. I am a genealogist, I can tell you, I have done my homework. And I have the documents to back up what I say.

Let’s begin at the beginning, Frank Zappala was DA Stephen Zappala’s grand-father. Frank’s parents were immigrants from Calabria, who first settled in New York, the Bronx on Mott Street. Frank Zappala got a law degree, which was unusual at that time for an Italian Immigrant. Most Italian immigrants then had little or no education. Frank and his wife Josephhine settled in Oakland. The rest of his family were in New Kensington, a stronghold for the gangsters of that time.

Frank’s had a sister Rose who married John Bazzano a major racketeer. Racketeer John Bazzano was the Uncle of Chief Justice Stephen Zappala. In 1932, John Bazzano got angry about the popular Volpe brothers infringing on his racketeering territory, so he had three of them killed in broad daylight on Wylie Avenue in the Hill-District section of Pittsburgh.

Bazzano’s murder of the Volpe’s was not sanctioned by Lucky Luciano in New York. Bazzano was called to New York to answer for murdering without permission. Charles “Lucky” Luciano’s underboss Vito Genovese, a very brutal man had Albert Anastasia, whose side business was Murder Inc. whack John Bazzano brutally for misbehaving. And quite a Brutal Whacking it was. Bazzano came back to Pittsburgh with 22 stab wounds from ice picks, a dead pin cushion.

It was also quiet a scandal in the day, both in New York and in Pittsburgh. Rose Zappala retreated to New Kensington with her children in tow, as well as her father Joseph. Eventually her son John Bazzano Jr. took up his father’s business. John Jr, married into the Ripepi Crime family. He married Frances Ripepi.

One of her sisters married into the Valenti Crime family which included Constenzo, Stanley Valenti and Frank Valenti. It was Stanley who married the Ripepi girl, but it was Frank Valenti who was the man.. dapper, charming, good looking and deadly. Stanley and Frank due to their marriages were into both the Pittsburgh and Rochester New York Rackets.

One of Franks favorite schemes was to blow up a building on one side of Rochester while he was committing a crime on the other side of town. At the time, these bombings got blamed on the Vietnam Hippie Protesters. Frank let them take the rap. Frank lived a long life and died in Houston Tx in 2008.

In Western Pennsylvania at this time the Western PA crime family was the LaRocca Family. There were about 8 or 9 chief families under the LaRoccas. Of those the Zappala’s are closely related to at least three.

How do the Zappala’s factor into all of this? They were the lawyers in the family. All I can say here is that when I read about other crime organizations that span this time frame, there is always what they called an Ambassador of the Underworld, who bridged the underworld to the upper-world. The job of these ambassadors was to grease the way of illegitimate business to legitimate business, and provided protection.

For instance when you read of Frank Valenti crimes in Rochester it usually says that the powers in Pittsburgh got him off the hook. Let’s’ take it a step further, DA Zappala’s law partner was Charles Porter, he is Chuckie Porter’s son. Chuckie Porter was huge in the Pittsburgh rackets working with Michael Genovese as his underboss. Michael was the nephew of Vito Genovese in New York who was mentioned above.
Chuckie Porter was also one of the biggest cocaine distributors around. That is a lot of “Family”. It is way too much to all be a coincidence.

Why is this kept quiet? Well let me put it this way, many people know about this, Italians know, people in power know, the average person who votes does not know though. They have a right to know. If all of this were made public, it would kill a political career. It is UN-survivable.

If there was nothing here to hide, why are the Zappala’s hiding it? The bigger question is, how on God’s Green earth, do people who climbed their way to the top this way deserve to sit in judgment of anybody.

And why is it not being pointed out that DA Stephen Zappala, through his witch hunt, show trials, which destroy peoples’ lives and the fabric of our community, is acting just like his Chief Justice father did, when he wanted to get his political opponent Judge Larsen out of the way.

These political assassinations are no different at all, except in method, than racketeer John Bazzano whacking the Volpe Brothers in broad daylight on Wylie Avenue, because they were doing business on his “turf”, which threatened his business interests. I say, the next time the Zappala’s run for office, “out” their family tree to the public and let the public decide.

Hi Chris
Dale McCoy here. I happened across this article while surfing the web. I'm quite sure that you never bothered to contact me concerning my past, my affiliations, my beliefs, or even to just give me a head's up that you would be questioning my integrity. I'd be glad to meet with you and discuss all of the above. And I'd appreciate it if you did due diligence and contacted me before writing your assumptions....much like you accuse others of doing.
Here's to freedom of the press (even if it comes with a lack of conscience on your part)...

They have a 12% graduation rate. this is a place to go if you want Student Loan debt, not a Degree or Diploma. The bottom line for these bums is the bottom line in the pockets of the Corporate Executives, nothing more and nothing less. I wasted 5 and a half years of my life at this place. What a joke it was...and is...

Re: “More EDMC layoffs reported

There were more layoffs on June 27 - supposedly 10% of the central office. Employees were vaguely notified that there MIGHT be personnel cuts on June 25 - not enough time to prepare. No explanations were given as to why some employees were cut, but others who have been doing the same job for fewer years were not.

Re: “EDMC reports revenues, enrollment down on heels of more layoffs

Dear Tod Todd,

Just taking note of those treasured memories. Remember when our stock was above $30.00 and solid before your got caught and now even homeless people can buy tons of it? Remember back when we had them all fooled, before all of our personal, political, and corporate shame was hung out for the world to see? Remember when Bishop Romney was going to save us all from collapse and prison?

Todd Todd, do you remember when it was so much fun to scare the immortal out of those recruiters and make them con the disadvantaged kids? Remember when Federal dollars were burning up the wires into our pockets and Goldman Sachs' accounts? Do you remember how many of those highly talented and promising Art Institutes faculty we tossed under the bus and how we laughed when their hopeful students wrote petitions and even tried to sue us?
Remember when we could get instructors who faked credentials and who showed up drunk in class at Argosy and Brown Mackie? That was almost as much fun as lying to the Department of Education, right?

Remember when Pittsburgh and Phoenix were not ashamed to have us office in their cities?

Ah, the good old days. Almost as good as digging up gold tablets on a hillside somewhere.

Well Todd Todd, I guess that John John and I will be seeing a lot of each other at the defense table. Looks like even Amy will be there.

Yes Todd Todd it is a new year.

Re: “EDMC reports revenues, enrollment down on heels of more layoffs

If EDMC does not lie pathologically, why do they show that they have 158,000 students on all of their releases (you know Jacqueline Muller) when they only have 108,000????? If their enrollment is dropping why does Todd Nelson and his gaggle of ass wipes plan to hawk his failing stock on BMO Capital Markets webcast?? The answer is that they lie, because they do not know what else to do and they are there to sell stock, not to offer educations. You know like Bain Capital was there to build communities (choke).

Re: “EDMC reports revenues, enrollment down on heels of more layoffs

All I have to say about this is.....they suckered my daughter and myself into a debt that I will be dead before I get it paid off. They took advantage of many low-income parents(which I am one) and run credit reports to see just how much they could get out of us. I saw one thing on paper at AI and when I got my 1st payment slips I almost fainted!! They had borrowed 30,000.00 the 1st year my daughter was at AI Atlanta!!! I had no idea. My daughter transferred to AI Nashville and quit after the winter quarter. She said they taught her nothing and promised her the moon. So the guilty ones who did all the promising deserve to lose their jobs but so do all in the Admid. they are all a bunch of liars. So I'll spend the next 10 yrs paying for what she could have learned at a Community College and gotten a Masters!!! They promise jobs these kids will never get just to milk the Federal Gov. for all the monies they can get out of low income parents. I learned my less alittle to late. So BEWARE of all AI schools. FYI AI Pitt. has been blowing up my phone all day......wonder why?

Re: “EDMC reports revenues, enrollment down on heels of more layoffs

EDMC is toast. The atmosphere among amployees is so grim, people are wishing to be laid off (to get severance and qualify for unemployment). 90% of the staff are unhappy, an this year's layoffs and no-raise announcement didn't help. Add to that the turmoil among leadership, and it's no wonder why upper management is stressed and taking it out on middle management. Middle management is then treating their staff like crap. The only people who are happy are those who are in with the "buddy" crowd. You know what I'm talking about... favoritism, which leads to unequal treatment o those not in the buddy crowd.

Re: “More EDMC layoffs reported

I actually attend the Art Institute of Washington now and most of the professors here just got laid off this wednesday. Its a shame because we pay so much money for an education that we did not realize was false from the beginning. According to staff here, they are laying of professors who teach full time and actually care for the students and replacing them with those who can work part time with no benefits.

In the graphic design department this is the second time this year that they have done layoffs. Those who are higher up claim that, because of a merger program, to combine the graphic design and the web design program, explains why they had to lay off so many outstanding professor, but we all know that were getting scammed because they want to pay less money while we pay more. This is ridiculous to me. I have three quarters until I graduate and I feel that this school is extremely unstable. Every student here can vouch for this too.

They make it so hard to graduate. We spend more money, and go ahead try and leave cause your credits are barely transferible. If I where to this all again I would never in my life go to this school and you can take that to the bank.

Re: “EDMC to employees: No layoffs, but no raises either

Given that they just announced another round of layoffs today Thursday 8.23.12, the old "low water mark" has yet to be reached. The public statement read that the layoffs will keep tuition costs down. EDMC tuition is 400% of a competitive state school education. Of course most competitive school executives are not taking home $40 million per year.

Somebody else bogged here that morale in general at EDMC is so bad that even the HR people no longer care. These statements from Jacquelyn Muller have been so juvenile and defensive for so long that it is very possible that the place just goes through the mechanics of public relations. Ten years ago I thought that Todd Nelson and crew were just liars. Listening to their conference calls was good entertainment. Then I began to believe that Nelson and crew actually thought that the American business community were stupid. However as Meredith Whitney has said of the likes of EDMCs' board and executives, before 2008 we knew they were evil. Now we know that they are also stupid!

It is very possible that these bottom feeders actually believe that by cutting a few hundred thousand dollars in salaries they can actually lower the $300/400 per hour tuition that they charge 122,000 students. They are for certain very stupid to make announcements containing explanations that not even one of their students would believe.

Seriously there is not an ounce of honor in any of them. They will lay off workers whose families likely depend on that income. They are laying these workers off because they created a legal and ethical nightmare that will take the American economy and education system decades to recoup. These are not the heroes of industry who take pay cuts--these are the cutthroats of industry who will throw any employee under the bus, hurt the employees' family and community, leave the employee with a job history that may actually hurt the employee, embarrass the country, rob taxpayers, then fly out to Salt Lake City on a corporate jet to make a quiet but enormous political donation to the candidates most likely to perpetuate a corrupt business environment.
