Pittsburgh joined in on the nationwide ‘No Kings’ protests today, with thousands gathering in front of the City-County Building downtown and Allegheny Commons Park on the Northside. The downtown protest, organized by Indivisible Pittsburgh, featured remarks from Congresswoman Summer Lee, County Executive Sara Innamorato, Congressman Chris Deluzio among other local leaders. Protesters filled Grant St. to rally against the Trump administration and hear from local activists and musicians by 1 p.m. before marching to Mellon Square. The protest on the Northside, organized by 50501, also drew a large crowd of people, some dressed in animal costumes holding signs that read “No Kings in Pittsburgh” and “Grab him by the Epstein files.” Jaime Martinez of Casa San José spoke on the many injustices he has noticed in the community surrounding ICE and the importance of standing up for your neighbors.
