Independent journalist Natalie Bencivenga interviewed Mayor Ed Gainey on May 9 and Allegheny County Controller Corey O’Connor on May 14 focusing on housing, policing, and racial inequities in Pittsburgh.
Bencivenga spoke with Gainey about how a lack of a police chief has impacted the police, themselves, in how they do their jobs. They discussed the incident at P Town in Bloomfield and what Gainey has pledged to do so that no one feels traumatized by the police moving forward. Plus, they look at how to best deal with racial segregation in our communities. Gainey believes housing integration is the answer.
Similarly, Bencivenga asked O’Connor how a lack of a police chief impacted the police and communities. They discussed why people aren’t coming to Pittsburgh, and what could be done to attract families, retain talent, and grow the city’s tax base. Plus, they discuss how to address racial segregation in our communities.
