Get free beer at Primanti Bros. on Wednesday only

What's the coolest thing made in Pennsylvania? According to an online vote, it's Pittsburgh's Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar. Now, the chain wants to celebrate the honor with a day of free beer at its Pa. locations.

On Wed., April 5, every Primanti Bros. customer of legal drinking age with a valid ID will receive one 12-oz domestic bottle. The giveaway entices guests to celebrate Primanti's famous, French fry-topped sandwich beating out over 30 other products in the "Coolest Thing Made in PA" bracket-style online vote sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

In a press statement released today, the Chamber announced that more than 32,000 votes were tallied to determine the final winner and that Primanti Bros. secured the final round with 53% of the total vote. The contest was launched on March 14.

“We’ve known Primanti Bros. was the coolest thing in Pennsylvania since about 1933,” says the company's CEO Adam Golomb in a press release. “But we’re glad everyone else is coming around, too."

Golomb adds that, with the promotion, Primanti Bros. fans are celebrating by "collectively raising a free beer together across the Commonwealth.”

The nearly century-old chain, which originated in the city's Strip District and now has locations all throughout Pennsylvania, as well as in West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland, beat Mrs. T's Pierogies, Zippo lighters, and UTZ potato chips for championship status. Other contenders included Hershey's Kisses, Harley Davidson motorcycles, Yuengling Lager, and Sheetz MTO.

 “While it’s an honor to be recognized as a Champion – it’s even more remarkable to consider all of the iconic brands, businesses, and stories that were born of our Commonwealth," says Golomb. "Pennsylvania is full of cool things – and we’re excited to be counted among them."
