Hidden Harbor
1708 Shady Ave., Squirrel Hill
Drink: El Diablo
Ingredients: Reposado tequila, lime, crème de cassis, ginger beer
Our take: Floral hibiscus notes, brightened with lime, were the main flavor components in this iteration of this classic drink. The ginger beer contributed only a touch of heat, leaving the drink clear and clean with a touch of tartness.
Vs.
täkō
214 Sixth St., Downtown
Drink: El Diablo
Ingredients: Sauza blanco tequila, lime, ginger, soda, crème de cassis
Our take: This iteration of the cocktail is hot, hot, hot! The burn starts slow, then fills the senses. Lime zest is wonderfully fresh on the nose, and the berry notes of crème de cassis help to give this astringent drink some depth of flavor.
