South Side Kids fish fry fundraiser at Cupka's Cafe
Pittsburgh boasts plenty of fish fries for Lent, but one will serve as a fundraiser for a local community group. Cupka’s Cafe announced that proceeds from an upcoming fish fry will support South Side Kids, a collective working to make the South Side neighborhood more socially equitable for families and kids. Happening March 3 from 4-7 p.m., the fry will have $12.99 fish-and-chip meals for dine-in or takeout, as well as all-ages activities like puppet-making, a family-friendly dance party, and a temporary tattoo station.

Trace announced that, on March 4, they will host the first meal in
Farmer x Baker's Root Cellar dinner series. The five-course prix fixe tasting menu will be paired with Trace's craft brews. Tickets cost $150 and are available at

The Refillery

Self-Reliant Seitan brings its small-batch "vegan meats" to The Refillery for an event dedicated to sustainable food and care products. On March 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., reuse the empty containers for your shampoo, lotions, and other everyday products by refilling them at the Squirrel Hill shop. From there, stock up on plant-based protein from Self-Reliant, grab some vegan "Pop-Tarts" from the Dormont-based Sharayah bakery, and fresh juice from 1:11 Juice Bar & Eatery.

A group of CMU business students opened a new on-campus dining option.
A CMU story touts
Capital Grains, conceived by senior David You, as a "first-of-its-kind" for Chartwells, a company that oversees dining at CMU along with 300 other college and university campuses nationwide. Capital Grains focuses on grains and salad bowls and will be operated by students as a way to "grow their skills in restaurant management and operations." Capital Grains is located on the second floor of the Tepper Building in Rohr Commons. Current hours of operation are 12-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

various dinner series. The woman-owned self-dubbed "organic farmette" will present its original dinner series, as well as a Guest Chef Picnic Series and On the Farm Dinners, all programmed by Chef Csilla Thackray. The On the Farm Dinners will span five different categories with a seven-course Tasting Menu, a Hungarian Dinner, and an Italian Celebration, as well as five-course Farm Dinners With Chef Csilla, and the four-course On The Farm With Friends, which highlight local growers and artisans. Vento's Pizza

A Pittsburgh pizzeria will close its doors after over six decades in business.
CBS Pittsburgh reports that Vento's Pizza in East Liberty will soon shut down. The restaurant promoted itself as the "Home of the Italian Army," a term given to local Italian-American supporters of late Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris. The group was co-founded by the owner of Vento's. Vento's will close on March 4, according to CBS Pittsburgh.
