Young @ Heart

In this documentary, senior moments include singing Coldplay tunes.

Something about The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" just feels different when it's sung by a group of 80-year-olds, who may need a wheelchair just to get to the show. The Young @ Heart Chorus, as observed by documentarian Stephen Walker, is about an unquestionably delightful group of senior singers who tackle contemporary music under the guidance of director Bob Cilman. The wonderful story is perhaps undercut only by poor filmmaking; despite good intentions, Walker injects himself too much into the narrative. Young @ Heart is both feel-good and a heartbreaking movie -- a celebration of life that will also make you contemplate death. The group's performance before prison inmates and the rendition of Coldplay's "Fix You" during the big show is likely to reduce you to tears, and have you hoping you're that awesome during your golden years.
