The Innkeepers

Is there a ghost in the old hotel? Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe.

Curl up and spend the final weekend at the Yankee Pedlar Inn, a faded hotel that may or may not be haunted. The two bored slackers manning the night desk — Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy) — hope it is; they've been trying to catch paranormal activity on tape. With only a couple of guests at the hotel — including a psychic (Kelly McGillis) — the pair have plenty of time for spooking each other — or is something sinister actually happening? The Innkeepers, from Ti West (The House of the Devil), is more a slo-mo indie comedy than an outright horror film. Its best scenes are in the vein of Clerks, those that depict the bonding that can mark dull, low-paid jobs. Those looking for straight-up horror, nail-biting tension or even a coherent last reel are apt to be disappointed. Thu., Feb. 9, through Thu., Feb. 16 (no screening Mon., Feb 13 or Tue., Feb. 14).
