LEONARD COHEN: I'M YOUR MAN

In January 2005, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Beth Orton, Teddy Thompson, Jarvis Cocker and many others performed the songs of Leonard Cohen in the Sydney Opera House. Captured on film, their tribute became the basis for the documentary I'm Your Man. The film alternates between the concert footage, testimonials from several of the artists and interviews with Cohen. But the real tension lies between the gauzy, evocative visual montage (including Cohen's artwork) and Cohen's incisive, polished words, whether in conversation or his lyrics. Director Lian Lunson, whose credits include music videos and the PBS documentary, Willie Nelson Down Home, skims lightly over the wine and women to focus on life in the Tower of Song. Cohen has been getting people laid since 1967 ... primarily himself, it seems. Even now, at age 71 ... well, bring a date. Harris (AJ)
