When The Takeover UK's raucous EP It's All Happening came out on the Rykodisc label in May, it was supposed to warm things up in preparation for a full-length, Running With the Wasters, due this fall. That full-length release has been pushed back to January, according to the band, but the members will be plenty busy between now and then, with a full national tour kicking off this week and running through early December.
The tour starts with a Rykodisc showcase at the Delancey, in New York City, as part of the CMJ Festival; the band will be hitting the East Coast with Detroit garage-rockers The Von Bondies, and the Midwest and West Coast with The Shys and Army Navy. Takeover UK plays Club Café at 7 p.m. Thu., Oct. 30, with The Shys, Army Navy, and locals Donora. In keeping with the spirit of the season, showing up in costume gets you $2 off the cover charge.
Other musical Halloween happenings include the 16th annual "Evaline" Halloween party in Bloomfield on Sat., Oct. 25, which includes -- yes -- a rollercoaster, plus performances by swank cello quartet Cellofourte and DJ Pistol Pete (412-681-9677 for more info). And if you're looking for something a little different to do on Halloween proper, check out the Elise's Playground Halloween Ball at the Altar Bar on Fri., Oct. 31, featuring fetish performers, DJ Dale Cooper, and musical guests Radioactive and Debutante (www.myspace.com/elisesplayground).
It's also time for what's become a tradition on the local-music scene: the annual Production Procedures Productions Halloween compilation, and its attendant release shows around town. This year's comp is a double-disc collection of mainly local bands, alongside a few out-of-towners with Pittsburgh connections, such as Louisville's Wax Fang.
The first release show is 10 p.m. Thu., Oct. 30, at Lava Lounge, with The Seeing Eyeballs, The Sexes and Wake; the next night, catch The Fitt, a reunited El Grosso, House of Assassins and Tigerhorsesheeppigcow at Gooski's. Both shows are $4. And on Sat., Nov. 1, catch The Weird Paul Rock Band, The Lobster Quadrille, Becky Corrigan and more, and get a copy of the compilation included with the $5 cover. As this final show is scheduled for the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, which recently sustained damage from a second-floor fire, check www.myspace.com/productionprocedures for updates on the venue.
