Critics' Pick: Whitney Rose at Club Cafe

[COUNTRY] + TUE., OCT. 17

Canada is an underrated exporter of country singers, and Whitney Rose is a perfect example. Her voice is smooth, but her songs have grit, like when she croons about one-night stands (“You Don’t Scare Me”) and mistreating an ex (“Better to My Baby”). The sound on her recently released Rule 62 (named after an Alcoholics Anonymous story in which the moral is “don’t take yourself too seriously”) ranges from traditional country to surf rock to jazz-pop standards. She’ll play Club Café tonight along with Minneapolis acoustic trio Northern Comfort.

8 p.m. 58 S. 12th St., South Side. 21 and older. $8-10. 412-431-4950 or www.clubcafelive.com
