One of the benefits of working at an alt-weekly is being allowed, even encouraged, to consume NSFW material on the clock. Sex columns, kink culture, mobile fuck trailers — it’s all fair game. So when staff writer Rachel Wilkinson revealed the existence of erotic fanfic about The Pitt, the hit Max medical drama set in Pittsburgh, we had to see it for ourselves.

While The Pitt eschews the more explicitly sexy, Dr. McSteamy appeal of Grey’s Anatomy, it does feature an array of attractive actors playing doctors, nurses, and other staff at an underfunded hospital. Former ER star Noah Wyle earns #daddy points as senior attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, leading a unit that includes preppy, smug hottie Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), stunner Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), and low-key baddie Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif).

Not to be overlooked are Isa Briones as Dr. Santos and cutie patooties Dr. Melissa King (Taylor Deardon), Dr. Dennis Whittaker (Gerran Howell), and Shabana Azeez as med student Victoria Javadi. The list goes on and on.

It may seem inappropriate to sexualize a show that revolves around trauma, death, and post-COVID mistreatment of medical workers, but look, times are tough, and we have to find joy where we can.

I know you’re thinking, “But Amanda, I can’t enjoy hospital smut unless it includes medically accurate terminology and diagnoses.” Don’t worry, you little freak — the fanfic community has been hard at work to ensure your chosen filth will fully immerse you in a world of unethical, HR-worthy shenanigans. Take this excerpt — courtesy of HotelRaleighwhere, from the website Archive of Our Own — where Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) and Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) pause their romp for a possible head trauma:

“Abbot!” Samira cries out and this time, her head slams backwards. The sound is loud and Jack jerks, pulling away faster than she thought possible.

“Hey, no concussions.” He frowns and waits for her to flutter her eyes open again. “You’re alright?”

She wonders if he’ll ask her to list off all the possible symptoms of a concussion. She has to bite back the delirious giggle, but she nods all the same. “Yeah, I’m -“

He gets his proof of life and promptly decides that’s good enough.

The Pitt erotic fanfic has all the med-speak covered and then some. Nothing gets a reader’s engine running like an entire section about minimally invasive procedures, catheters, and medical acronyms like REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta). Abdominal ultrasounds? Don’t mind if I do! How about some hot harm-prevention action where EMTs shoot off a bunch of vitals (GCS 7, BP’s 82 over 40, respirations 8 and shallow) before shooting Dr. Langdon full of NARCAN (side note: the “I can fix him” fantasies about Langdon are telling, to say the least).

While clinical speak appears throughout, it’s, thankfully, absent from the sex scenes, so the likelihood of a character screaming, “I’m experiencing involuntary, rhythmic contractions of the pelvic striated circum!” or “The pressure is building in my posterior urethra!” is low.

If references to the Pittsburgh region are more your thing — especially since The Pitt loves to pander with mentions of Primanti’s, Wholey’s, and, in the case of a high-speed chase, every conceivable county and major roadway — much of what I skimmed came up short (inexplicably, there is one slashfic story about Dr. Robinavitch and a Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium veterinarian). Yet despite the lack of Pittsburgh-specific content, The Pitt‘s growing body of fanfic has something for everyone, whether it’s LGBTQ romance, PG-13 storytelling, or naughty narratives chock-full of emergency trauma procedures.
