Hundreds of people gathered outside of The Strip District Terminal this morning to witness the first ever Pittsburgh Walk of Fame induction ceremony. WQED’s Rick Sebak kicked off the event my quoting Mr. Rogers and telling the crowd, “Yes, it is a beautiful day in this neighborhood.” Ten native Pittsburghers were honored with star plaques set into the sidewalk on Smallman St. This year’s inductees included George Benson, Nellie Bly, Andrew Carnegie, Rachel Carson, Roberto Clemente, Fred Rogers, Jonas Salk, Andy Warhol, August Wilson and Michael Keaton. Keaton attended the ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the city of Pittsburgh stating, “Honestly, this is one of the greatest days of my life, I love places like this but I especially love my hometown and I love these immigrant cities…there is nothing like being recognized by your hometown because its the place that actually makes you who you are.”
