This week, Pittsburgh City Council could finally move forward with a measure to create a residential housing rental permit program.

At its weekly standing committee meeting on Wed., June 10, council will continue to debate the ordinance, which was first proposed in November. It would require landlords to register property located within the City of Pittsburgh at a cost of $65 per year, per unit.

The measure was brought up for a public hearing in December, but council has yet to bring it up for a vote.

Today Pittsburgh City Council considered  a resolution to grant a liquor license for Mixtape LLC, a new entertainment and event space opening soon in Garfield.

At a public hearing this afternoon, Mixtape owners Katie Molchan and Elaina Holko met with councilors Bruce Kraus and Darlene Harris, along with Maya Henry, the city's night-time economy manager. Also at the table was Aggie Brose, deputy director of the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation.

Brose and other community members are requesting that the liquor license only be granted if the venue closes it's garage-door like windows at 11 p.m. Mixtape owners say the restriction would limit their business and put them at a disadvantage against competitors.

District 9 Councilor Ricky Burgess, who represents Garfield, was not present at the meeting. A vote was scheduled for Wed., June 17.

A special meeting on the maintenance of city facilities, requested by Councilor Theresa Kail-Smith, will be held tomorrow, June 9 at 1:30 p.m. in council chambers. There will be no public comment.
