CP Staff Reviews Pizza Week Pizzas

Sometimes work is hard.

You didn't think we were going to do all the hard work of bringing you Pizza Week and then not partake in any, did you? We love pizza. We live for pizza. Sometimes, when no one is around, we dress up like pizzas.

Here are some CP Staff reviews for this year's Pizza Week speciality pies.

Chicken Pesto Pizza - A pizza featuring roasted garlic, provolone, mozzarella, fire-roasted chicken, roasted tomatoes, pesto and parmesan.

I ate with a couple CP staffers at City Oven and had their chicken pesto pizza. The staff asked if we were there for Pizza Week and was in high spirits. The pizza itself was really tasty – we got one with a white crust and one with whole grain crust. It was super cheesy and delicious!

I had the opportunity to eat City Oven’s chicken pesto pizza for Pizza Week 2018. The freshly baked chicken and cheese gave off a wonderful aroma. The chicken pesto pizza was visually pleasing with shades of green and red coming from the pesto sauce and fire-roasted tomatoes. Considerable pieces of chicken were placed over the base of mozzarella, provolone and tomato sauce. The acidic kick of the pesto and fire-roasted tomatoes was balanced by the savory cheese and whole-grain crust.

For Pizza Week I wanted to try somewhere new. So my family and I took a drive over to The Upper Crust where I was able to try two new things, the location and the type of pizza they offered. The location was bustling with people coming in and out the door picking up their orders and delivery drivers loading up to make deliveries. I’m a big fan of gyros, so a pizza with gyro toppings is right up my alley. They used a tasty tzatziki sauce in place of the red sauce and topped the pizza with provolone & mozzarella cheese, gyro meat, tomato and onion. The toppings were generous and spread evenly across the pie. The crust had a perfect crunch and flavor. In addition to the gyro pizza, we tried three other speciality pizzas and they were all fantastic.

I am very lucky to live in the neighborhood that's home to the original Slice on Broadway (representing BEECHVIEW!). While I am always excited to order their pizza, I was extra excited to get the Santino. Slice has the most amazing thin crust; It's perfectly crisped to hold your toppings steady, but with not too much dough. The addition of ricotta cheese to this pizza party was nothing short of inspired, and it was the perfect complement for the slight heat from the sausage. Every bite housed the perfect balance of meat and cheese. While Slice is great on any given day, this particular day, they were amazing.

AND, great news, pizza lovers! We still have a few seats left in our mozzarella and dough making class!
