Last night, City Paper released a statement about problems with our March 7 cover story. Given some time to think about the piece and do further research on reader complaints, I have come to the following conclusions:

First, we originally planned to put the story back online today. Our thought was that it was not fair to the other women profiled in the piece. However, given that we know that a photo was intentionally altered to remove a swastika, I don't have enough confidence in the factual reporting of the piece, even though it may all be accurate. Also, several of the artists have reached out and asked not to be included any longer, given the content of the original piece. We believe that not putting the story back online to be the best course of action.

Secondly, in the earlier statement, we said we intended to leave Amber Lambert, of Bloodeagle Tattoo, in the piece after examining her social-media footprint yesterday afternoon. While she has denied claims that she was a supporter of the white-power movement, further investigation has uncovered several photos of Lambert's husband adorned in several tattoos linked to the white-power movement. We regret posting that statement before doing further investigation.

If you have any comments or questions regarding this unfortunate episode, please do not hesitate to email me: cdeitch@pghcitypaper.com
