If you have ever thought that Braddock mayor and Pennsylvania Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman looks like a football player, a recent campaign ad released by the Fetterman campaign will only add to those comparisons. (Also, Fetterman did actually play college ball at Albright College in Reading, Pa.)


Posted on Fetterman's Facebook page on Super Bowl Sunday, Fetterman's ad parodies the famous 1979  "Hey Kid, Catch!" commercial where a young boy befriends Steelers' Hall of Fame defensive tackle Joe Greene, offering him a Coke and then Mean Joe throws the kid his game-day jersey in exchange. 

In the Fetterman version, the kids offers a tired Fetterman a campaign-logo pop after Fetterman says "I am running for U.S. Senate, kid. I need all the help I can get." Fetterman then tosses the kid a official Fetterman campaign shirt. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the ad was viewed more than 250,000 times in the 24 hours following its release. 

Make sure to watch the whole ad through: At the end a Pittsburgh specific insult is thrown towards one of the Republican presidential candidates. Bet you can't guess who?

The Fetterman campaign also released another ad today, showcasing Fetterman's support for marriage equality. The ad, shown below, tells the story of how, in 2013, the Braddock mayor married a same-sex male couple in the old steel town, even though it was against Pennsylvania law at the time. (The Supreme Court ruled that the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to wed in a June 2015 decision, making it legal throughout the country.)
