Unseam'd Shakespeare Co. offers this free reading of Molly's Hammer, a new play by noted local playwright Tammy Ryan about Molly Rush, the Pittsburgh housewife who in 1980 was arrested for taking a hammer to the nosecone of a nuclear warhead.

Rush ultimately did jail time as one of the Plowshares Eight for the break-in in a missile facility in King of Prussia, Pa., just outside Philadelphia.

Ryan is known for her plays about social issues, including Lost Boy Found at Whole Foods. Molly's Hammer, a fictionalized version of Rush's story, was adapted from Hammer of Justice: Molly Rush and the Plowshares Eight, by Pittsburgh-based author and poet Liane Ellison Norman.

Rush, who co-founded the Thomas Merton Center of Pittsburgh, is still living in Pittsburgh and advocating for social justice.

Tonight's reading features a strong cast, including Robin Abramson as Molly, Michael Fuller as her husband, Bill, and Ken Bolden as famed peace activist Daniel Berrigan and other characters. The reading is directed by Robert CT Steele.

The reading takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh's Studio Theatre, in the basement of the Cathedral of Learning. The Cathedral is located at 4200 Fifth Ave., in Oakland.
