The Pittsburgh Riverhounds home will open the pitch to its first concert this summer.

The inaugural concert at the soccer stadium will be Steve Miller Band June 14, with opener Don Felder of the Eagles. Tickets for the show range from $65 for general admission to $135 for VIP tickets and will be on sale starting Monday, April 20.

Riverhounds president Richard Nightingale said that the stadium has versatility not just for soccer, but really any event, from festivals to concerts. Highmark Stadium has "a great backdrop for concerts in Pittsburgh," Nightingale said.

The stadium will be able to accommodate 3,500 to 9,000 people , according to promoter Rich Engler. Engler, who previously ran the IC Amphitheater, has been booking events at Highmark Stadium for the past three months.

"This place is special. The view is second to none and it's total convertible," Engler said.

In addition, Engler has booked REO Speedwagon and a 50th anniversary concert to celebrate Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and The San Francisco Sound at separate events this year. He has also booked The Chainsmokers, of "#SELFIE" fame, for an EDM festival on June 13.

Having started a few months ago, Engler hasn't been able to book as many events as he would like. If he had gotten an earlier start, he would have liked to booked acts like Diplo and Calvin Harris and plans on booking 10 events a year.

In 2016, he plans on giving Stage AE, among others, a run for their money, boasting that the North Shore venue can only hold around 5,000, while Highmark Stadium can hold as many as 9,000.

"We will be competing. [We] got a late start this year. But next year we'll be much more a head of the game," Engler said.
