Heinz Hall cancels Cosby appearance

In a brief statement released moments ago, Heinz Hall announced it has canceled Bill Cosby's performance scheduled for Feb. 21.

The show was "canceled by mutual agreement with Cosby’s presenter and Heinz Hall management," according to a press release.

Less than a month ago, I wrote a story about the difficult position Heinz Hall was in with respect to Cosby's appearance there. The show was presumably booked before the recent string of allegations surfaced that pointed to a pattern of sexual assault. And depending on the details of Cosby's contract, Heinz Hall could be on the hook for paying him even if they cancel.

It wasn't immediately clear if Heinz Hall will have to pay Cosby despite the cancelation; calls to the venue and promoter seeking comment were not immediately returned. As late as yesterday afternoon, Heinz Hall continued to sell tickets to the show.

Pressure to cancel the show also came from a change.org petition, which garnered roughly 2,200 signatures.
