Bobby Wilson to challenge Darlene Harris for District 1 Pittsburgh City Council seat

University of Pittsburgh researcher and Spring Hill resident Bobby Wilson announced this morning he will challenge Darlene Harris' City Council seat in the Democratic primary this May.

“As a fifth generation North Sider, I understand the changes affecting our communities for better and worse,” Wilson said in a press release.  "What sets me apart is my drive to create new opportunity and investment that will contribute to the prosperity of Pittsburgh’s transitioning economy.”

Harris, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Peduto administration, also squared off against Wilson in the 2011 Democratic primary. Wilson came in third, with 12.7 percent of the vote, trailing far behind Harris' 41.31 percent.

His campaign manager, Michael Logan, says the 2011 campaign for the District 1 seat is the only political office Wilson has ever pursued. According to the release Wilson is a senior researcher with the University of Pittsburgh’s Emphysema COPD Research Center. He received a B.A. in Political Science and a Master's in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.

"The biggest issues in the North Side are the biggest issues in Pittsburgh," Wilson said, according to the release. "We need a voice at the City County Building that can make that clear and bring the change that District 1 deserves."
