"Shakespeare's Star Wars" Tonight

Posted By on Mon, Apr 28, 2014 at 2:38 PM

Who was the worse dad, Hamlet's or Darth Vader?

Is this a Wookie I see before me?

At Te Cafe, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks presents "George Lucas' Star Wars re-imagined (by Ian Doescher) as William Shakespeare might have written it."

The evening will blend the talents of professional actors and Star Wars fiends, who'll "ham it up with readings of the key scenes and soliloquies of this classic adventure."

It's all cast as a belated birthday greeting to Willy boy, who turned a blushing 450 last week.

The show continues PSIP's Bring Your Own Bard series, a night of informal scene readings that encourages participation — contact PSIP ahead of time if you want to claim your favorite Star Wars character to read — but welcomes pure spectatorship. Kids are welcome.

"Shakespeare's Star Wars" begings at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Te Cafe, at 2000 Murray Ave., in Squirrel Hill. There's a suggested $10 donation at the door; food and drinks are available for purchase. And light sabers, notes a press release, are optional.

PSIP is Pittsburgh's outdoor Shakespeare company, active since 2005. This year's free production will be As You Like It.
