In a just-announced literary visitation, Chicago-based author Chris L. Terry is here Saturday for the Zero Fade Fade Book Tour.

Zero Fade (Curbside Splendor), set in Richmond, Va., is about “a 13-year-old boy who deals with his own homophobia as his beloved uncle comes out of the closet.” Bullying, hip-hop, ’90s pop culture and African-American family life also figure in.

Excerpts from the book have been published in the Chicago Reader, Great Lakes Review and elsewhere. The novel earned a coveted starred review from Kirkus, which called it “a sparkling review” and “wicked smart.”

A press release from Big Idea describes Terry as a former punk musician who’s turned to fiction writing

The Big Idea Cooperative Bookstore & Cafe is located at 4812 Liberty Ave., in Bloomfield. The reading starts at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Also reading is local author Kayla Sargeson, who curates CP’s online poetry feature Chapter & Verse.
