This one dropped Friday evening, but thought it was worth special notice. Guess which public servant was the top earner on the city of Pittsburgh's payroll last year? You know it's gotta be Sergeant Eugene Hlavac. Yeah, this guy. (Another top earner appears to be this guy.) You just cannot keep a good man down.
Speaking of cops, up until a few days ago, I might have thought this WPXI story -- about some drug money that may have been lost or stolen within the department -- was too silly for broadcast. The missing money, after all, may never have existed at all except in a bookkeeping error. But these days, who can tell anymore?

You know about the new 878 area code, right? Brace yourself for a lot of highly marketable BS allegiance to the old area 412 code, which all the "real Burghers" will have and blah blah blah.
An Allyson Schwartz candidacy for governor in 2014 looks more and more likely.
Some state legislators, including Pittsburgh-area state Rep. Rick Saccone, are actually giving up their pensions, in the spirit of austerity. I can't find Daryl Metcalfe's name on the list here, can you?
