Cheryl Capezzuti, who became locally famous starting in the 1990s for making sculptures out of dryer lint, is back with her first such project in nearly a decade. And she’s seeking donations.

Capezzuti’s best known lately for her festive, oversized puppets, of the sort that (with humans inside) marched in the last couple of First Night parades. But through Feb. 20, she’s collecting lint for her National Lint Project, and a public-art installation at Trey’s Laundromat, in Brighton Heights.

She’ll turn at least the first 50 donations into small sculptural works for an exhibition to run March 23 through April 27.

To participate, drop off your best lint (we’re not kidding about this) at the Laundromat with a letter answering the following questions:

Who are you?

What did you wash?

How do you feel about doing laundry?

Capezzuti’s idea is to make people think about the everyday tasks we take for granted, and the things that we throw away. In that sense, her National Lint Project, founded in 1994, prefigured the current vogue for making art from repurposed materials.

An opening party at the Laundromat is scheduled for Sat., March 23, at Trey’s, 3801 Brighton Road.
