So, when my two musically-inclined brothers decided to drive in from the wilds of Michigan to visit me last weekend, I was casting about for activities we would all enjoy. We ended up that Friday night at Howler's Coyote Café in Bloomfield, where local bands Blindsider and Triggers were playing in the packed back room. It was the first I'd seen of Triggers in quite awhile, and their set was a real eye-opener -- the band sounded tight and exciting, and the between-song barbs and non sequiturs traded between keyboard player Brett Zoric and guitarist Adam Rousseau added to the bratty fun. My bros loved it, and were still buzzing about the show a week later.
It was Rousseau, I believe, who pointed out from the stage that exactly one year had passed since their debut album came out, called Smoke Show. The review I wrote when it first came out concluded, "Smoke Show is easily one of the strongest and most assured local releases so far this year. Like we expected anything less." I still feel pretty good about writing that.
Triggers has hooked us up with "Contagious," the second track from Smoke Show. Download it here!
