Letters to the Editor: Sept 5 - 12

Reader proves there's no accounting for taste

I seldom write letters to the editor, but I want to commend City Paper for its consistently excellent writing and fresh, insightful perspectives. I especially enjoy Al Hoff's film reviews, which are always thoughtful and articulate, full of cleverly observed details, frequently hilarious, and just plain engaging.

The distinctive voices of Hoff, Chris Potter and Bill O'Driscoll, in particular, make City Paper a must-read for me each week. Pittsburgh is fortunate to have such a quality alternative newsweekly that both informs, and entertains.

Our Aug. 29 Main Feature, "Making the Grade," misstated the time frame for a comparison between black and white student test scores. The article noted that a 33.7 percentage-point disparity in reading proficiency was "unchanged from the year before." In fact, the percentage was unchanged from two years before.
