In Early Afternoon

after Malena Morling

The girl in the next chair

is ballooning like a blimp.

Her head a mushroom cloud

pouring radioactive ash on feet

burning to blackened crisp,

eyeballs gaseous globes --

Her belly swelling

full of dinosaur eggs,

legs and thighs

the size of live oaks,

and then her brain

blowing itself out,

cell by sensible cell.
