Gotham

— for John Naglick II

Dad,
the city is littered with color
our drawers are filled with heirlooms
and everything of consequence
so that you might be proud
the same is
as was:
one hand washes the other,
muscles contract with indifference,
and the worst in us keeps wheels turning
we are relocated
east of eden,
east of everywhere
