"Not everyone wants their special day turned into a gimmick ... but some do." That's the nut of this wedding-related mockumentary from Debbie Isitt. Three ordinary British couples vie to put on the best themed wedding (tennis, Busby Berkley-style or nudist); the winner will receive a house (or at least a very nice photo of a house-not-quite-built-yet). Even with the help of an indefatigable pair of gay wedding planners, our teams are beset with comic miseries; for instance, the naturist bride is contractually obligated to wear clothing. There are a couple of laugh-out-loud moments, but the best of the humor is found in the film's painful silences or muttered asides. Fans of the BBC's mockumentary series The Office will cringe and giggle in happy recognition. In fact, actor Martin Freeman (Tim from that very same Office) is the wedding celebrant you're most likely to root for. (AH)
