Another big issue with Transit in Pittsburgh is that People who live outside the city, yet work here and come in for events at the Stadiums or Cultural venues are a problem. The woman in the article lives and pays her taxes to Monroeville...why then should the City of Pittsburgh residents pay more to make it easier for her to not have to live here but still benefit from a major Metropolitan area she doesn't contribute into?
I get that some people may find that cold, but one of the biggest issues with Pittsburgh is that in 1960, Pittsburgh's population was 600,000, and Allegheny County's Population was 1.2 million. Pittsburgh's population today is just over 300,000, but Allegheny County is still at 1.2 Million. People cannot expect to live and pay the bulk of their local taxes to other municipalities, yet bitch that the city doesn't have adequate transportation or amenities. You cannot have the luxury of cheap borough taxes and big backyards, as well as enjoy a bustling vibrant city to use whenever you want. It's why we are broke; all yinz that want to live a city life but pay country taxes, and that doesn't work.
The problem with this map is getting the railroads to accept giving up lines to local commuters, as well as finding the funds to build commuter stops. To get the railroads to do anything, even with land they are not using, is like pulling teeth.

I think the story of Slim and his family is a great example of the real value of Pittsburgh in the National and Global spectrum. People are amazed at Pittsburgh's potential, as well as it current beauty, charm, and affordability. I am a fan of both Slim and George, and I am glad they got to realize what I have always known. Pittsburgh freaking rules, dude.
