Even so-called "iconoclastic" critics just can't get past their hangups sometimes. I'm surprised that such a lame review was quoted here. To fault a rock album for being "self-obsessed" is ludicrous when you can call most rock albums and stars self-obsessed. Some people just have to be contrary.
That's bad enough, but this review goes on to ignore dozens of great songs and cherry-pick a few bad ones to justify dismissing most of the band's career. Readers are not served well here. Hopefully some will search out some deep cuts and decide for themselves what they like.
