Re: “Pittsburgh undocumented immigrant could be released from detention next month

If Martn works in our community, then there is someone else who needs to be held accountable. It all works together to undercut a system based on laws that are being ignored.
It doesn't matter if you made it here and found a place for yourself if you did it illegally. Illegal is illegal is illegal.
What did you miss?

Re: “Over the Board

Hello BNC, I own Property in Beltzhoover and I want to rebuild soon as this neighbor hood gets it act together. I am not writing to start any more issues, I am hoping and praying that we start working together to move this community forward. It is our time now and the only folks we can blame is ourselves! So lets stop with the finger pointing and humble ourselves to create what God has given us in each other. Please stop the fighting and stop blaming each other and just hold each one up and give the benefit of the doubt. We should yell at the tugs / brothers and sisters that continue to dump trash in the empty lots and offer drugs to neighbors. Let's do a reset on this thing starting right now.... It is ok for us to make a mistake we just need to get past it asap. Note: NASA had several space ships explode leaving or coming but they went back to work the next day and we only talk about the success of the agency. Let's Make Beltzhoover a better place after our mistakes. LOVE YALL!!!!!!! God Blessed and forgive quickly!

Re: “Pittsburgh area Congressman Mike Doyle not attending inauguration of Donald Trump

Thank you, Mike Doyle! The easy, politically-cautious thing to do was to attend the inauguration. The brave thing to do, and more importantly the MORAL thing to do was to protest. Just as it was moral and right to protest the oppression by the British during the Revolutionary War, and moral and right to protest for equal rights for blacks and women in the 60s. But you might ask: why protest now, given that Trump is our new commander in chief, etc? Because Trump has, even before taking office, shown himself to be a racist, a xenophobe, a sexist; ignorant of global warming and torture and nuclear weapons; insulting to veterans, the disabled, and the Pope; a hypocrite; and the biggest liar among all the presidential candidates in 2016. I'm sure I missed some. He is our president but he deserves to be removed from office as soon as possible, before he does more damage to our country.

Re: “Pittsburgh area Congressman Mike Doyle not attending inauguration of Donald Trump

This was disgusting as a politician you are voted in for your people!!! Not for Lewis!! When it's reelection time I guarantee we not only will not forget we will work hard to make sure that any representative that thinks Lewis was more important that uniting our country is not fit to represent us!!!!!!! We have been more divided in this country in the last 4 years since the 70's and you just added to it!!!

Esquivel is a priority for enforcement he has 4 prior removals. It serves the country well to remove someone that has such disregard for the law.

Re: “As Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th president, Ambridge isn’t waiting around for his help.

So moral of the story, there are two sides to every story. I am happy to see people who care out there trying to make a difference instead of just spouting comments about how the town has gone to shit while doing nothing to better the situation. I grew up in Ambridge and would love to see it bounce back!

I am sorry, but I disagree that Trump divided the people. Over the last eight years is when the people became more divided than ever.

Re: “Pittsburgh area Congressman Mike Doyle not attending inauguration of Donald Trump

I fail to understand your thinking process on this. This is the 45th president if the united states. This is not Donald Trump H .Clinton or any other person that became our president. This is our new Commander in Chief, and I feel as my elected official you and every other elected person should be there to show the world that this is our new president, and this is what we do in the free world. There have been a lot of people elected president in my life time I have to admit there were some I did not like, but I still supported them from day one, and I expect the same from anyone I send to Washington,so I hope you do the right thing as an American, and go stand with your new president, and hope that the people that put you in Washington stand with you the next time your name is up for reelection

Re: “As Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th president, Ambridge isn’t waiting around for his help.

Hey SW PA native, thanks for the comment. The story actually mentions how Trump gained ground compared to Romney in Beaver County, and how there are clearly signs of significant Trump support in town. However, this story was inspired by the people of Ambridge reaching out to me, (not me going out of my way) wanting to tell a different story to what they are used to reading about in Ambridge.

The article is not about how Democrats are losing ground in Ambridge or how Beaver County is becoming more Republican. It is about a town and the people there that are working hard to try and improve Ambridge, regardless of national politics or the Democratic or Republican party.

As always, thanks for your readership and your input into the story.

Re: “As Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th president, Ambridge isn’t waiting around for his help.

Ryan, it seems as though this story is devoted to "debunking" stories by "large out-of-town publications ... about how white working-class, Democratic voters were swayed by Trump and helped secure his victory in Pennsylvania and nationwide." Then, you cite Clinton's win by 12 points as though it's some exclamation point on a faulty narrative. Well, four years ago, Obama beat Romney in Ambridge by 26. (Add up the math from Aren't the data clear that Trump narrowed margins in several communities and flipped others statewide? (See among many examples.)

The article also goes out of its way to quote people who speak highly of Ambridge and its possibilities, but offers no differing opinions -- other than repeating a guy's quote from The New York Times. Aren't you curious how support for the Democratic candidate declined by 14 percentage points in four years? Sure, Ambridge isn't a GOP stronghold, and maybe "outsiders" are wrong to give that impression, but what is the ultimate value of a story that gives superficial treatment to the borough's challenges? Western Pennsylvania is littered with towns like Ambridge, where some locals think a nice coffee shop or antique shop will spur inspiring, turn-back-the-clock downtown redevelopment. In other words, this feels too much like a defense of Ambridge as a reliably Democratic-voting town instead of a clear-eyed consideration and analysis of the region's voting habits. Beaver County has 18,448 more Ds than Rs (, but Trump won by 6 points ( Westmoreland County long has had a -- declining -- Democratic registration edge, but Republicans, generally, win there now. If City Paper is going to venture to Beaver County to explain it to us, shouldn't it endeavor to tell a deeper, fuller story?

Re: “Pittsburgh area Congressman Mike Doyle not attending inauguration of Donald Trump

I find this disgusting. President Trump was elected by the pepple to be our President and not to support him shows a lack of respect not only to him but to us from these so called Congressman who refuse to acknowledge that we elected him and he is their President too. This country stood against these types of politicians in this election and we will do so again when their time comes up to be relected. Congressman Lewis should be ashamed of himself as he is not about making this country stronger. If I didnt know any better any man who didnt recognize the President of his country could be considered a traitor. How sad at a time when we should be concerned with fighting terrorists we have to fight with our own people.

Re: “Pittsburgh area Congressman Mike Doyle not attending inauguration of Donald Trump

I have lived in Pittsburgh for 62 years and I am ashamed to see what I am witnessing. President Trump is our President. I will support him and to all those politicians who we have elected and will come up for relection and have decided to stand by Congressman Lewis and not acknowledge Mr. Trump as the elected President Shame on you. The people elected Mr. Trump because some of us believe he loves this country as much as we do and he will do the right thing for not only the country but, for the people. For those who choose not to attend and boycott his presidency will be remembered when election time comes around. Just remember a country that stands together is alot stronger than one that is divided.
