Re: “Sam Pace's Gangwish issues a triple-LP-length work on a USB drive

Eric Yeschke (of Expensive $hit, Raw Blow, etc.) recorded this record at The Nerve and did a wonderful job doing so!

Re: “Wu-Tang's RZA found his second chance in Steubenville

To anyone who is interested in the history of Hip-hop and has not read "The Tao of Wu", I highly recommend it.

It is insightful, well-referenced, and occasionally funny; it is only held back by The RZA's insanely massive ego (and, in early chapters, the utter hatred for the white man he felt in his youth).

Re: “Mike Nesmith wants to tell you about the other 37 years of his career

Somebody should give him a Steeler/Penguin/Pirates stocking cap.

Re: “Shadow Lounge prepares to close after over a decade in a changing neighborhood

Re: “Shadow Lounge prepares to close after over a decade in a changing neighborhood

The city paper decided the story they wanted to tell before I was even interviewed. I will tell the real one here:

smikileaks.tumblr.com

Should it surprise me? no. Does it disappoint me? yes.

Its all good. Probably best if I tell it my way anyways. I will be just as critical of myself as I will be of others, but at least the truth will be on the page.

This is the same paper that told us years ago that they weren't gonna keep doing write ups on all of the fine talent that was coming thru the lounge because we weren't advertising with them.

Yes....its true. the real world does suck some time.

And HOW ARE YOU GONNA HAVE A LOUNGE STORY WITH NO GENE STOVALL and NO STAFF?!?!?!?!

Re: “Steve Kimock leads a life on the periphery of rock

I am just going to start learning. I am not that good at playing and need guitar help. Any info on guitar lessons you can give me will be much appreciated. I had gone through this site:

thanks...

Re: “Lord Finesse's suit against Mac Miller raises questions about the future of the hip-hop mixtape

I've often wondered about this. I always just assumed that guys got away with this stuff on mixtapes because they were distributed for free. I also wonder how this applies to cut-up DJs who distribute mixes for free, since I don't see much difference ethically in what Mac Miller did in this case versus what any number of DJs do on a regular basis.

I disagree with the idea, though, that avoiding samples altogether will improve the quality of the beats. You'll just get more emcees rapping over stuff that sounds like computer game music. Bottom line is that labels need to get off their wallets and support their artists by clearing this stuff, no matter how it is distributed.

Re: “Will Oldham takes stock of his 2012

So, the opening "band" Title TK turned out to consist of three dudes bantering back and forth while wearing guitars. Some in the audience appeared to take issue with this. Thoughts?

Re: “Mysterious Mr. Mangum returns to Pittsburgh

Mangum's first Pittsburgh show was actually July 22, 1996 on the second floor of the now-defunct Oakland Beehive with fellow Merge bands Butterglory and Karl Hendricks Trio.

Control freaks appreciate that horrible freedom. You don't have to compromise with yourself.
