This is amazing. Thank you for this.
Bernadette has read at Hemingway's Cafe in Oakland a few times. It is always a treat.
Kayla, great poem. U write w/ such verve. Sista-poet.
A very well developed poem. The Capitalist thematic is very interesting because Doralee expresses it in a clear manner. I would like to read more poems like this.
It appears the poem's first line has a typo? That is should read "Didn't" instead of "did't" ?
One of the best poets in Pittsburgh. Widely published nationally and internationally. Should be more acclaimed. Has taught many poets gladly and shared his art in school settings. Great orator.
Chekov had a philosophy, that only necessary elements should be included in a play. If you were not going to use something, leave it out. This poem is spare but says so much. The three carrots are essential and amusing.
Chekov scholars can be tricky this way. "sometimes in life (as in Chekov) nothing happens" -- but delightful things in tribute to that void happen in this poem. 3 carrots? Wow.
Mr. Zepp's kind demeanor shows in the humor of many of his poems. He pays keen attention to the incredulity of life and can state in a minimalist format. Pittsburgh is lucky to have him.
Poetic dynamics are very clearly operative. Why endeavor to pass an edict upon Ms. Vasser's work as not being a poem?
Thanks, Sarah for your wisdom, wit and , your continual work in the Pittsburgh poetry
Community. You give sister-creators water and they drink.
The commenter has always liked Joan's poems which deal with memoir and her poems which relate her California years.
" roll like a dog in an obscenely green lawn"... wonderful line.
An premium poem by a much respected poet.
Sheila Carter-Jones is an excellent presenter of her poems as well as writer.
Wilkinsburg is the breeding ground of excellent poets. W.D.Snodgrass lived there some of his younger years and James Deahl. Ms. Conley's poetic voice is very lyrical and extremely enthralling and individual.
Mr. St. John narrative poems always relate stories of great worth and importance. Great poem. Varied levels of meaning.
Let's hear more of her poetry !
So exhilarating to see one an old friend's intriguing "wordsmithing" of growing up in southwestern PA in the newly released book, The Girl Factory: A Memoir. A little girl and young woman always process these memories and recall them with symbolic imagery, and she has done it effortlessly. It is so invigorating to read her work yet still recall the immature hilarity of our memories of our close circle of friends from high school and marching band. I would enjoy sharing my poems with Karen and would love to reminisce. So inspiring!
This is not poetry.
