Hirtle is correct. It's better to endure more Christian ads than for atheists to remain invisible.
They are not providing all sorts of perks. Some of the back of the house workers are getting turkeys that they can't even cook on Thanksgiving since they'll be working morning to midnight. Give holiday pay like everyone else or stay closed.
If anyone else can be open, they should be allowed too. I'm all for them being open! Not fair to single them out. Plus, they're giving those who work all kinds of perks!
When Target beats you in worker treatment, you've got some explaining to do. Go on strike Capital Grille workers! They won't listen until you really stick it to them.
I go out to eat on Thanksgiving. It is pathetic that this article and City Council is making judgement on this and therefore me and my values. I eat Chinese food during Christmas. I go to movies during Easter. Tonight is Chanukah and many of you will be going to bars. Please don't instill what you perceive as family values on others. Please don't write articles criticizing Darden, especially when hundreds of Pittsburgh restaurants are open on Thanksgiving. Government, please don't instruct me on what I should be doing on Thanksgiving.
The service industry generally works nights, weekends, holidays, etc and that is okay and expected. Service workers and their expected schedules are no less important than people with 9-5 jobs.
The issue is that Darden does not give HOLIDAY PAY to its employees. No incentives, no time and a half. Most, if not all, retail outlets including Target receive holiday pay.
All I can say about this is that it is RIDICULOUS. Plenty of restaurants are open, retailers choose to open. If people do not like it, get a different job. I have known people who worked for the Capital Grille and they make a lot of money for being a server (if you can support a family of 4 on a servers income there and be able to buy an investment property on top of your mortgage, I think you are doing well there).
First off, some people prefer to go out to dinner for holiday meals. Why shouldn't some restaurants be open? Toll booth workers, hotel workers, movie theater employees, police and firefighters are not off on holidays. Why are they not being singled out by the City Council?
I think there are more important things to worry about.
Lynn you stayed true to your thoughts.
You took all the fun out of my heartache, but I did find out what I came here looking for. "Motherless" was haunting me. I even tried to warm her little toes.
"The same community that helped give the world Rick Santorum now gives benefits to gay and lesbian teachers." Love this line!
