I wanted to go see Adam Lambert but when I heard that he had a keytar player in the band I just couldn't do it. Some prejudices are still alive.
A great experience
as stated on the website, www.thelessergender.com, feminism is a gender-identity issue. it is a gender-identity issue to advocate for the little gender with the words "a woman can do anything a man can do". this is because anyone's gender is a matter of reality, and anyone's identity is merely a matter of self-understanding (or of self-misunderstanding). gender-identity is a matter of the understanding (or misunderstanding) of one's own gender. "a woman can do anything a man can do" is a gender-identity issue because it is based on (mis)understandings of the female gender. it is for this reason that i understand feminism as a gender-identity issue. a woman simply cannot do anything a man can do, this point is justified by every gender-based physical competition (olympics, military requirements, hot dog eating competitions, weightlifting competitions, etc)...as well as the gender-based competitions that have slipped my mind.
why does the wannabee wear high-heeled shoes and shoulderpads?
woman = womb+man

It's about time the wold class medical city of Pittsburgh addresses this much alienated population. The "T" in LGBT is not silent - only ignored for far too long. Medical professionals please stand up. Metro and Persad can't continue to do this alone!!!!!!1
in agreement with marcia gallo... had a family emergency after a year filled with medical bills, i've worked at the same company for seven years, lived at the same address for five years, make a fair income just in a crap situation and needed a stop-gap. i completed the online form disclosing sensitive information and someone called me up asking for months worth of pay stubs, bank statements, and other information. one pay stub would be okay, but months worth? i'd already provided them with a phone number for the company that does automated employment/salary verification. and there is no reason for them to need to see my checking account activity. he was entirely patronizing and then abrasive when i said it seemed very odd that he wasn't using the information provided as verification, and that there was no mention of needing this information on the website. and now i'm left with an uneasy feeling that they have my personal information and they seem like a scam. i do not recommend at all. i'd rather go to a loanshark... at least you know what you're dealing with.
DAM SHAME
No that rising opinion IS true. Worse is the opinion that we can continue to pump loads of carbon into the atmosphere without consequences, that we can continue to poison water and soil in areas that would otherwise be totally sustainable, and that there are actually ways to reduce and eliminate our use of fossil fuels quite rapidly that have been sabotaged for decades by the fossil fuel cartels.
There may be a lot of candidates but John here won't be getting my vote until he stops sucking off the gas industry no matter how liberal he is otherwise.
Senior citizens happen to be someone's parents. They have a right to live and eat on this planet as well as all of you. They've worked in this country...let them live and eat. Don't cut social programs for the elderly. It's unfair. Remember this when your parents are elderly!!!!
Whether or not you have seen and/or heard of AJ is irrelevant. The fact the he "came out of nowhere" is irrelevant. What is important, and what should be looked at, is when he did"come from out of nowhere", what, in fact, did he do! Unlike majority of people who sit in the background and make their comments about what needs to be done in their communities, AJ came out front and stated what needs to be done. People who live in their communities know what needs to be done to better their lives there. Where in Sheraden do you live that Teresa Smith has been responsive to? Is Sheraden flourishing with businesses and is there a supermarket there, or do you, like the rest of us, have to travel to McKees Rocks or Crafton-Ingram to purchase food? How about the schools? If she is so responsive to needs and concerns, why did two schools schools close down, forcing children to now walk long distances to school (Langley) without the availability of transporation? My sons go to school with children from Crafton Heights who have to wake up at 5am to make it to school (Langley) on time! This is outrageous! Meeting with people and responding to the needs and concerns of people are two very different things! Theresa Smith has had eight years to do this. How has Sheraden, as well as the other communites in District 2 changed in eight years? Well, from the looks of it, it has not! Violence and unrest still occur in communities like Crafton Heights, the West End, Windgap, Elliott (where an 16 year old child was killed last month). So tell me, one who has lived in these communities during the term of Teresa Smith, what has changed? The road bumps at Crafton Heights were fixed, not due to the work of Teresa Smith, but to the work and advocacy of AJ Richardson! Ask the youth in Crafton Height how he used to take his own money and provide free lunches for them all summer! It is the "unsung heroes" that do not receive the recognition that they deserve, while those who do nothing just sit back, make their comments, and take up space in their offices and in the world at large!
@ tiredofthebs: First of all you would have seen A.j. at a number of events if you just removed your head from theresa's fat a*s!!! Do your research aging housewife... For fifteen years he has worked in several communities and several states! Where was theresa a few weeks ago, when Aj was comforting the parents of the boy who got gun down on the streets like a dog! Where is theresa when Aj is out there mentoring the youth, feeding the hungry and working with people from different walks of live to stop crime and police brutality. Aj is for ALL, theresa is ONLY for the middle class of mount washington. I'm a single mother that was born in sheraden and the work Aj has done with our youth is amazing and I wish he keep it up... He definitely has more people than he thinks, that's supporting him for city council.
@ Rick B. For the record this issue ran out faster than most! So great job CP for doing what was the best thing to do. I m sooooooo tired of closed, narrow minded, bigoted fools jumping on Aj. If he was a white man, with tats & one dui (which he apologies to the whole city for.... you & other idiots know that he would not have been crucified like this! Hey Prick... I mean Rick, aj is very easy to get in contact with, I was fortunate enough to speak to him twice... So he can be contacted very easily. Why don't you be a man and stop acting like a little B*#tch! Contact him & meet up with him.... Whenever you free in between your menstrual cycles!
Where can I get another copy of the SUMMER GUIDE?
Lisa you need your head examined!!! This whole race came down to $$$, not a candidate that represents the needs of us all. I wanted Aj Richardson to win, because he strikes me as a man that will fight for the GLBT community, equal pay for woman & minorities & discrimination amongst the elderly!!! But this city never given him a true chance, because his image and an early dui! His image is what Rocks and how many of us should have gotten a dui, but we just was fortunate enough not get pulled over! He never got a leveled playing field...just look a CP articles of the race! Bill and Jack got several lines...when Jake and aj only got a few... But that's Pittsburgh, Always afraid of the unknown!
Way to lower your paper with that cover and whatever ridiculous justifications are being used.
"A sweetheart contract for Laborers"? If only life worked that way. Folks that have no clue about back-breaking work, harder than most of us will ever know and which benefits the public in more ways than one (yes, I'm talking about Peduto, too), might ask that question. Those of us in the know can say he's not only funny. He rocks.)
95 cents of every dollar at the Food Bank goes to food assistance for southwestern Pennsylvanians in need - many of whom are children, seniors and those who work jobs without a living wage.
Not sure why this article was percieved as newsworthy. I lived in Sheraden for most of my life and am still active in the community. This guy came from nowhere. No one who truly works in the community has ever seen this guy. I have talked to people all over District 2 and this guy is virtually unknown. He continues to call himself as a community activist. I can not help but wonder which community he is active in and what has he done? Since the campaigns began, we have had numerous community events in Sheraden, most recently a Love Your Block project. Where was AJ? If I wanted to run for public office, I would begin with my neighbors. Theresa is a different story. Everyone knows her and how to get in touch with her. We knew her before she ran for public office. She was an activist in every definition of the word and most of us met her when we were all volunteering on one community project or service group. She is active in the community, knows her constituents and works tirelessly to bring services and businesses to District 2. If you have a problem, call her. She can get things done. She drives around the district and talks to people, encourages kids and represents her district.
Meanwhile all the other patrons who are able to eat dinner without screaming or throwing shit all over the place wonder why you don't take your kids to Eat'n Park where you won't be ruining the experience for others who are spending good money on a meal out only to leave with a stress headache of their own.
Re: “In the midst of redevelopment, East Liberty loses two more eclectic venues”
The city has been struggling between two approaches to economic development - the subsidy approach and the land shifting approach. The subsidy approach, championed by Mayor Caliguiri, Mayor Tom Murphy and Councilman Bill Peduto, invariably gives money to big corporations (who have staff people sniffing around for subidies) at the expense of local businesses.
The tax-shifting approach, championed by Council Presidents Bill Coyne, Robert Rade Stone and Jack Wagner, and by Mayor Sophie Masloff, reduced taxes on all buildings and all wages, and increased the taxes on the value of land. This actually gave land-efficient small businesses a competitive advantage over big-box stores and other large corporate holdings.
We lost the land value tax due to corrupt county assessing and retaliation against a whistle-blower who got some assessment-board members indicted. She had a seniority of 83, so the surviving board hired Sabre Sytems to privatize assessing and lay of 85 assessors.
If County Executive Rich Fitzgerald gets the land assessments straightend out, we can return to the tax-shifting approach and have economic revival without giving the city away to big corporations.
