I've had nothing but positive experiences with Jen. She is sweet and delightful, and always willing to answer any question I have.
oops...that somehow autocorrected my last your to 'you're' :( sorry!
I have had a different experience it seems than many reviewers in that I have taken Zumba class at the gallery. Jennifer runs the Zumba classes and is really one of the nicest people I've met. She's supportive and kind, not rude or judgmental in any way. It's very hard for me to believe we are talking about the same person. Definitely worth forming your own opinions about Jen and about the space...if you're experiences are anything like mine, you will certainly not be disappointed.
So glad they brought this place back - every night is a great night to head to Jame Street Gastropub!!!
I've been a few times and it's always really nice. Prompt service, not prone to the usual ridiculous downtown prices, and the music is fantastic.
Previously I had written this music venue off. When I went to a show here about five years ago, the floors were dirty and sticky, the lobby smelled like stale beer, and the restrooms were disgusting. But in the past few years, this old vaudeville theater has undergone some major changes. The venue has new management, new staff, a great new sound system, new lights, new bars, and a huge selection of microbrews and high end liquors. As of recent, they have been host to many New Orleans jazz and funk bands, burlesque shows, bluegrass bands, WYEP shows, WDVE shows, rock bands, folk bands, indie rock bands, comedy shows, and they do tons of local band showcases. The "New" Rex Theater is a much better venue than it once was and is my new favorite home for live music in the city.
Great venue to see up and coming bands. They have a dance floor and club seating, so whether you are going to get down or for dinner and a show, this is the place to go. They have friendly staff and an amazing microbrew selection. Check out Thunderbird Cafe next time you are in Lawrenceville.
I have used Modernformations twice for events in the city of Pittsburgh. I LOVED it. The space is clean, quaint but roomy, 2 bathrooms, sound system, tables and chairs all provided and set out for easy access. The difficulty in my situation is I live in Maryland. Jenn the gallery owner corresponded by email and was quick with her responses. She even emailed the contract. During my most recent event I had no assistant, Jenn stayed to help me with EVERYTHING she even allowed me to arrive 2 hours early AND she helped me set up. The event ran over and the additional charge was more than fair AND Jenn helped me clean up. You don't find reasonably priced venues with kind, people friendly management these days! Jenn allowed us to have full access to the venue and the only rules she had in the contract were set to maintain the safety of the art in the gallery, which is understandable. The artists are trusting her with their work just like I trust her with my events! I totally recommend monderformations! Check them out!
a must see show for fans of punk rock !
Great place going back again saturday with the family.
March 2nd The Rock Room will feature Outernational from Brooklyn, NY, Trash Magnet, & The Renfields! Be sure to add this to your listings! :-) Thanks!
Excellent Venue. Not a bad seat in the house. The food is great and the music is always top notch. You will not be disapointed.
We observed what appeared to us to be multiple violations of basic food safety/cleanliness procedures, and the place just did not seem very clean in general. The food and the service were slow, but otherwise acceptable. The "non-smoking section" is just barely so. The cigarette smoke smell from the bar in the next room was overpowering.
For job hunters...for those who are interested in changing careers...or maybe looking to find some extra income opportunities..check out Little E's entrepreneurial Thursday nights. It has a relaxed casual social atmosphere where people get together and share ideas, exchange business cards, enjoy good food and great jazz sounds from Jessica Lee and friends. She sings as sweet as she looks, folks! After you're done checking the want ads and all those online job sites (or want to mix business with pleasure), check out Little E's on Thursday nights.
Great food, party people and GREAT BANDS Like The Sidewinder Band - they ROCK the house and have the most AMAZING light show in the area.
I was so surprised when a friend clued me in on these reviews. Any contact I've had with Jennifer has led me to believe that she is an amazing person who does a LOT for the community, for very little in return. I am sorry that you two people had a negative experience, but:
To balance the scales a little bit, here are MY experiences with the gallery: No, it is not the most polished atmosphere in Pittsburgh, but I don't believe it's intended to be. It is cozy, is an amazing place for local artists who want/deserve a chance, is a great space for the music events I've seen there, and is a gathering place for many community events as well.
It is an important part of Penn Avenue, and I cannot stress enough how positive my experiences have been there. I have been to gallery openings, private parties, music shows and meetings. I think it has great vibes.
(By the way, the back and forth, messageboard style bantering on there is clogging up this area and is NOT a review. Write a comprehensive review and move on, people.)
This gallery is unimpressive and the decor/environment is shabby and dirty.
Mullaney's is the absolute finest Traditional Irish pub that the city of Pgh. has to offer. There are many wanna be Irish chain stores in town but they do not offer the warmth and friendliness of the Harp and Fiddle. The food is great and the beer selection is all that you would expect of an Irish pub and then some. Many of the staff are actually from Ireland and the live entertainment is first-rate. I would highly recommend frquenting this establishment.
We went to see Nick Fiasco sing and have gone back 2 times to see him and 2 other times. We have always had very good food and service.
Re: “ModernFormations Gallery”
My name is Richard Claraval. I just finished an exhibition at Modernformations Gallery. The experience was fine, and Jennifer Quinio quite stimulating to work with. I feel quite inspired for my next show, wherever it may be. All of the previous comments about the space are meaningless for the simple reason that they are anonymous. ALL anonymous posts on the internet are nothing save intellectual masturbation.
