The long-running series for local film and video has issued its call for submissions to its annual themed shorts contest.
This year’s theme is “Front Porch.”
Submissions can be narrative, documentary, experimental or animated, but must be under four minutes and must be submitted as a Quicktime Apple ProRes file.
The deadline for submissions is at 5 p.m. on May 26. Submissions can be mailed to or dropped off at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, 477 Melwood Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
Contest finalists will be screened on June 10 at Downtown’s Harris Theater. (That’s during the Three Rivers Film Festival.) A panel of judges will award cash prizes for first place ($150), second place ($75), and third place ($50), as well as an Audience Choice award ($50).
For more information about submitting work to the contest, email Film Kitchen curator Matthew R. Day at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can also watch Day himself describe the contest in this amusing video.
Film Kitchen is held the second Tuesday of every month and features independent film and video work from regional artists. The series is co-sponsored by Pittsburgh Filmmakers, 92.1 WPTS-FM, Mellinger's Beer Distributing and Spak Brothers Pizza.
