While the Steelers themselves have limped off into the sunset, Pittsburgh Public Theater offers one more pro-football-related tailgate party within a Hail Mary pass of Heinz Field.

Tomorrow at lunchtime, the Public launches its latest production of this popular one-man show about Art Rooney, Sr., with a tailgate in Katz Plaza (the one with the eyeballs, at 7th Avenue and Penn).

Form 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., enjoy treats from the food trucks of Oh My Grill and Dozen Desserts, which will give discounts to anyone wearing black and gold. There’ll also be free games with Steel City Cornhole, and fruit drinks by Fuze.

And you can meet the Public’s Rob Zellers, who (with the Post-Gazette's Gene Collier) co-wrote the much-revived 2003 play that finds Rooney holding forth on his life and times, from his youth on the tough Irish-American North Side of the early 20th century up through the Steelers’ second Super Bowl.

As always, The Chief stars Tom Atkins as Rooney. The show, directed by Ted Pappas, runs Jan. 3-12. Tickets here or by calling 412-316-1600.
