Anti-war rally this Saturday

Posted By on Wed, Nov 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Several anti-war groups are planning a rally to speak out against and raise awareness of the U.S. use of unarmed drones in Pakistan, Yemen and other countries.

The rally will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Sat., Nov. 24, at the corner of Forbes and Murray avenues in Squirrel Hill.

"This type of warfare is particularly concerning because Congress does not have to approve invasions of countries because there are no troops on the ground, just a silent invasion. Drones are also being used to spy on anyone in this country who our government decides poses a threat to national security," says Codepink Pittsburgh Coordinator Francine Porter, in a press release. (Click here to read a CP interview with Codepink co-founder Medea Benjamin, who is fighting against drone use.)

The action is endorsed by Codepink Pittsburgh, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, American Friends Service Committee PA, Anti-War Committee of the Thomas Merton Center, Black Voices for Peace, Peace Action, The Pittsburgh Palestine Solidarity Committee, and Students for Justice in Palestine.
