Heads Up: Morning headlines for Oct. 8

Posted By on Mon, Oct 8, 2012 at 5:06 AM

Remember that time the state legislature balanced the state's books on the backs of the poor? Turns out that wasn't just sort of heartless. It also may not have been constitutional. Not that you should expect that to make too much difference.

In a letter to the editor, the SEIU frets about the future for West Penn Allegheny Health System employees. The SEIU doesn't want WPAHS to go bankrupt, it doesn't want the proposed affiliation with Highmark to fail ... and it doesn't want a for-profit outsider to take over the chain either. Which doesn't leave as lot of options.

In case you hadn't noticed — and it seems that Senator Bob Casey himself is unaware — there may be an actual Senate race in Pennsylvania, courtesy of Tea Party challenger Tom Smith.

By contrast, somehow the race between US Rep Tim Murphy and Democratic challenger Larry Maggi hasn't exactly been building to a fever pitch.
And don't forget: Tomorrow is your last day to register to vote. Here's how to do so in Allegheny County.
